"I am very fortunate to learn under the guidance of Angie for the last 3 years. I have done both face to face and virtual sessions with her. She is down to earth and flexible to one’s physical and endurance limitations. Her extensive education in Health Science, Sports medicine, and Exercise Physiology makes me feel safe while training. She is quick to correct my posture or technique before I harm me physically. Her own significant and safe weight loss journey while parenting 4 kids has amazed me and keeps me motivated. I have lost 32 Lbs safely and have been able to maintain my current weight with her guidance. She is not only an exercise expert but also a good guide for dietary management and mental health improvement. She is very honest and even recommended me to another trainer when I needed a little more strength training. You can’t get a better teacher who works with every aspect of the health and fitness journey.

I started working with Angie almost three years ago. I had just had my first child and I was finding it very difficult to get back into running (I had been a runner for over 15 years). Everything hurt and felt like it was in a different place that didn’t make sense. I started taking Angie’s metabolic class and I fell in love with it. Slowly, things started to come back and feel normal again. My muscles became stronger and my body felt good. After about two months, I felt confident enough to start running again and it was amazing. It didn’t feel like it did before I gave birth (I don’t think it ever will) but I felt good in a new way. I learned through Angie that everything in our body is connected and if something is off (physically, mentally, emotionally) the other parts don’t work. She is a class act and will help you reach your goals!

Angelina exemplifies what a personal training and working with an exercise physiologist experience should be:
Active discussion;
Care plan with milestones, and
Respectful of me as a client who is aware of the level of my health disparities.
Trust is important to me in all of my relationships and environments. I am a functioning introvert, so building trust and even having the desire to open up is rare for me. Angie, not fully knowing my previous experiences, provided her background, asked me my goals and proceeded to provide information to guide me to the level of health I desire. I must commend her as I was reluctant to move forward, however, she exemplifies the mission of a holistic environment - and gently encourages us to a higher level of ourselves.

I started training with Angie because I wanted a lifestyle change not another fad diet or workout DVD. After my first session, I thought I would throw up… the next day, I was sure I'd never walk again. We've been training for months now and I still feel like jello after our sessions because every workout is different and customized for me. Angie was beside me every step of the way with motivation, positive feedback, tips and advice. She'll be the first one to tell you that I "did the work out" but I know that I wouldn't be where I am now without her.

I am a 53- year old female and I have struggled with being overweight most of my life. I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in the early 90’s and continued to pack on the weight reaching my highest weight of 269 pounds. Not controlling the PCOS led to adult onset diabetes and that has made it even harder to lose weight and get control. In 2007, I followed an eating plan that concentrated on lean proteins and lower carbs and was able to lose 50 pounds. But I still struggled with not exercising and having no motivation to exercise. I decided to sign up for exercise classes being offered through my employer, that is where I met Angie Jonsson. Angie was working as a part-time trainer for the college and was teaching a 30-minute express exercise class. We clicked right away. Angie had struggled with weight her whole life just like I had; however, she has been successful in losing her weight and through exercise is in the best shape of her life.
Angie led our 30-minute express class and managed to motivate us, work us as we needed, but also to reach each student in the class on their level. She was able to suggest modifications for those of us that needed it and push those that didn’t need modifications. What she gained in that first class was respect and admiration and a huge following. I also took her spinning class and had never worked harder in an exercise class but enjoyed the way she taught the class. The college began to offer personal training sessions and I realized then that I needed to take my exercise level one step farther. Although there was a selection of trainers to choose from, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to work with Angie. To date Angie has been my personal trainer for over a year. She has transformed me, mind, body, and soul. I have often said to people, “She gets me”. I feel as if she has much more to offer her clients because she “has been there”.
She doesn’t tell me what to eat but gives me the knowledge and the tools to make the right choices. I have lost an additional 25 pounds and am stronger physically than I have been in a long time. And although I have additional weight to lose, I know that I will reach my goal because of what Angie has taught me about nutrition and exercise. Angie is one of the most motivational and inspirational people that I know. Not only has she transformed my life but she has had the same effect on so many others around me. She is dedicated to helping others and she truly leads by example. I will forever be grateful that she came into my life.

First off I would like to state that I am grateful to have met Angie. It was a start to a journey that I did not even know I was on. The most important thing she taught me was critical thinking in relation to food, stress, exercise, and life management. She presented issues and ideas but never once stated as fact that there was only one view. Hence the questions of how, why, what, where or when had to be answered from within. I had to internalize what was important to me and my personal situation. She was the guide that opened my eyes to all that was already around me, by lifting off the blinders. At first I saw food as something from my backyard, the farmers market or grocery store– rather I didn't see that food also comes from restaurants, food trucks, or even fast food eateries. Her motto was that “You only get out from what you have put in. So, there are no shortcuts.”
Questions were constantly asked as to see if I understood the big picture, not just know the facts of RDAs, and AMDRs. So questions of where does food come from, what is the quality of the food, how to keep the best nutrients for consumption, why is a food choice made, and when am I actually hungry, all were questions I had to answer. This then made me more aware of what is necessary to be healthy, and how exercise and stress can help or hinder my progress towards health. Angie gave the me the reassurance I needed to progress forward towards better health, especially during the questioning process as I did not quite see what was coming next or understand the direction I was traveling. I was encouraged to make changes in my life to reach my goals. So in addition to working on my diet, I added in more weight training into my already cardio workout overload, and changed my perspective in my home-life in order to reduce my stress while still caring for my parents. This in turn made me a stronger person. In the end I learned from Angie – how things work and why. And now feel confident that I have a complete picture for a healthy lifestyle, and that I must continue to ask the necessary questions toward continual progress in the quest of better health.

As a young adult in my twenties and thirties I stayed pretty active keeping my weight off by doing water aerobics, jazzercise and dancing on the weekends, life was good. When I turned forty that's when I saw the most drastic change in my body, my metabolism slowed down drastically. My family life and work got in my way of making myself a priority, therefore putting on unwanted pounds and becoming out of shape. I didn't like the way I looked in my forties, struggling with yo-yo diets, losing the weight and then putting it back on.
Finally when I retired in 2009, I decided it was time to make myself a priority once again. I started working out at CSM doing water aerobics. I found CSM to be a great place to work out while making new friends. Little did I know I was going to have to do more than water aerobics to get back in shape.
So I decided to try something new at CSM which was the 30 Minute express class, that's when I first met Angie Jonsson our instructor. My cousin and I were the oldest ones in this class. At first we were intimidated by all the young folks in the class but Angie encouraged us to stick with it and she would modify our exercise to fit our strengths. As time went on we got stronger and stronger and less intimidated by the daily challenges Angie threw at us. Thirty-minute express class became one of my favorite classes.
I also took Angie's boot camp work out for I wanted to up my workout and maybe become a Warrior Dash runner. With Angie's sarcasm (which I love) and her words of encouragement she made me feel I could do anything. I felt stronger with each workout she dished out.
Angie's positive attitude about life and exercise made me believe in myself once again. I know that nothing is impossible to achieve we just have to believe in ourselves and make ourselves a priority. Thanks Angie.

My idea of fitness was once typical for that of the average young adult male (simply lifting heavy weights would allow me to reach success). It was not until I got a job at The College of Southern MD’s fitness facility in 2010 that I came to realize that I had yet to even tap into the necessary understanding to fully achieve personal goals. One of the campuses personal trainer’s was instrumental in implementing and influencing the way I see fitness forever and always.
It does not take long to recognize the mind-blowing grip Angie Jonsson holds on the world of fitness. She brings forth a tremendous love, enthusiasm and understanding of the fitness and wellness industry. Her knowledge of the field is well versed, vast and manages to branch out to every angle of the fitness spectrum. Whether Spinning or incorporation of the TRX or other instruments into a workout, she manages to tackle the hurdles that are the ever-changing and ever-present in the fitness industry. Angie’s passion and energy for fitness and wellness is also quite infectious as well. I always find myself incorporating factors into my workouts such as adding resistance and more consistent cardiovascular training, using a juicer for the full effects of natural juice and always finding an itch to spin.
Aside from witnessing her dominating impact in the world of fitness, I also have the pleasure of seeing who Angie truly is in her walk of life. Words to describe Angie include endearing, loyal, open-minded, cordial and easygoing. And I’m honored to admit that I have seen these qualities on display multiple times, rather than a few occasions. Who she is and what she represents has not deviated one bit since the time I gave her my application and shared an introductory hand shake. Angie has managed to have a tremendous impact on my life and will be forever recognized as a mentor, friend and my personal trainer.

The first time I met Angie was in an interview for a student assistant job freshmen year. I had high hopes, but no experience, no credentials, and no job. She believed in me! I played soccer and weighed 145 and was 21% body fat, I wanted to be 180 and 14% body fat while maintaining speed and agility. Keeping my personal goals the priority, she gave me eating guidelines, planned workouts for me, and held me to a high standard throughout my training. She would push me when I needed it, laugh when I was too serious, and encourage me when I was down. I had never worked out before but she made it fun. I never felt like working out with her was a routine because she constantly changed the intensity, duration, and exercises performed.
I exceeded my goal and weighed 187 and was 11% body fat after just three months. I was captain of my soccer team for the first time in my entire life. Fast forward after weighing 187 I wanted to box in an upcoming golden-gloves tournament at 165. Before agreeing to help, she brought me through many tests and concluded the weight shift was safe. She again gave me an eating plan (more strict this time), assigned workouts and held me to a high standard. My goal was to lose 22 pounds. Healthily over 3 months I was 5% body fat and a lean 165. I won my first fight in my first tournament ever and received the sportsmanship award for the tournament. Angie has been an inspiration, friend, and coach. I attribute my wellness success to her mentorship, love, and knowledge. Thanks again Angie!

About three years ago, I decided to take a fitness class at the College of Southern Maryland with my cousin. I was 56 years old and never exercised in my life and I didn’t know what to expect. On that first day when I walked into the 30 Minute Express class, I felt intimidated because there were a lot of people there half my age and I was truly afraid. Then an amazing woman by the name of Angie Jonsson appeared who happened to be the fitness trainer. She saw that I did not have the ability to do most of the workout that the others were doing, but she made me feel like I could do it. She modified the various routines to meet my abilities and the more I went to the classes, the more confident I became. Angie made working out fun and encouraged me to push myself.
I soon learned about Angie’s own personal journey. I was in awe of what she accomplished and how she changed her life. She changed my life too! I am now 59 years old, over 100 lbs. lighter and I am happier and healthier than I have ever been in my life. I have Angie Jonsson to thank for helping me get started with this new chapter of my life.

Angie Jonsson has played many different roles in my life. She was my boss at the College of Southern Maryland, my personal trainer, and now she holds the important position of being my personal friend. In 2009, I decided to transfer from the College of Southern Maryland to a four-year Division II institution to play collegiate soccer. After sitting out one year after playing two consecutive years for CSM, I knew that my fitness had to drastically improve in order to compete at a Division II level. Angie Jonsson was essential in assisting me to reach my fitness goals in preparation to joining Lake Erie College's soccer team.
Angie provided me with a nutritional guide as well as a fitness program that consisted of an individualized plan to accommodate my goals. Her dedication and motivating personality drove me to commit myself to the program and changed my perspective on fitness. I started to view fitness as less of a chore and more of a rewarding experience. This is due to her creative planning and differentiation of fitness activities. Angie has the ability to recognize her client's struggles and strengths, and cater to those specific needs. Although there were times when I found it difficult to continue with my fitness plan, Angie knew how to redirect me and encourage me to meet my end result. She was never afraid to join in on my workout simply to motivate and encourage me.
Taking a year off of playing soccer before transferring colleges caused me to question whether or not I would be able to accomplish the goals I had set for myself. Through her commitment and dedication, Angie helped me achieve my fitness goals. Angie was not just my trainer, but I found that she genuinely cared about my life and success - she became an amazing friend! To this day, she still gives me health advice and program ideas to sustain a healthy life. She has impacted my life in so many ways - I'm not sure where I'd be without Angie, she truly is a wonderful person.
Angie Jonsson is a remarkable human being who has not only helped me, but has helped an incredible amount of people to strive for a healthy lifestyle. In addition to assisting people in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, she has the ability to change her client's emotional perspectives of themselves.

I have been training with Angie for about six months. After six months of hard work and improved eating habits, I am proud to say I have lost over 40 pounds, a total of 36 inches, and dropped 3 sizes. I feel better. I look better. All of it is thanks to Angie's help. The workouts are challenging but she somehow makes them fun. I love it. I keep coming back for more...she keeps making workouts harder...she might be trying to get rid of me! Anyhoot, Angie is very knowledgeable in all that is fitness/health, and motivating in her own maniacal way. Her own story is inspiration enough to anyone looking to lose weight and begin a healthy lifestyle. I continue to work hard and see results. The only downside, the cost of a whole new wardrobe!
